My work explore the idea of energy, consciousness, space and time.

Some people see other worlds.

Some see landscapes, physical or emotional.

Some people feel a psychological connection.

This work uses abstract, accidental mark-making techniques with bold, precise application of metal leaf and 24ct gold. I'm exploring the notions of spirituality, healing and humanity through the materiality of mixed media.
I create tension between the perfect and imperfect and I am perpetually drawn to surfaces that shine. When the luminosity of a metallic surface meets the eye, our pleasure sensors are activated and energised.

These paintings strive to communicate with you on their own terms, revealing a life beyond the two dimensional surface.

 

Gold’s particular glow has entranced the pleasure sensors of the human race for millennia and has become an ongoing theme in my work.  The Egyptians revered it as a magical healing element sent from their god, The Sun. Equally, Christian iconography, from the middle ages to modern times, uses gold to depict the ‘light of God’ and enables the viewer to consider what they are seeing in a spiritual sense.
